Big Fourth of July celebration winds up with games and fireworks
The three day festival culminates with a Saturday fishing derby for Butte youths at Bell creek from 8 to noon, a street dance on Harrison avenue at 9 pm, and a 11 pm fireworks show at the greyhound race track. Friday featured a parade, gallopy races by the Butte Active club, a stadium sports program, a baseball contest and a band concert. A soapbox race drew 10 000 spectators on West Park street, but one crash near the finish line injured two bystanders.

Bandsman Dies in Butte Parade During Fourth of July
Arthur Liddicoat of 1820 Phillips avenue a veteran bass horn player with the Butte Mines band collapsed and died of a heart attack near Park street hill as the parade neared the Y M C A. He was taken to St James hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He leaves a wife two sons a daughter and three grandchildren. The body is at Whites funeral home.
