Berlin reports mass purge trials opened in Poznan for hundreds of workers tied to the three day bread and freedom uprising. The Polish regime pushes propaganda while officials in Poznan conduct alleged show funerals for soldiers police and officials.
The Associated Press reports millions take to highways for Independence Day observance with the National Safety Council predicting up to 130 traffic deaths despite a hoped limit of 80 through a strict enforcement crackdown urged by safety groups.
Two Cheyenne Indians from Lame Deer died in a one-car crash on Montana Highway 8 near Lame Deer. John Stands-in-Timber Jr. 27 and Wallace White 26 were killed when the vehicle veered into a borrow pit, struck a culvert and rolled. Stands-in-Timber died instantly. White died after officers arrived. The incident raises Montana’s 1956 highway death toll to 118.
At the United Nations Russia rejected a Western appeal for a fresh start on disarmament. Andrei Gromyko proposed a treaty banning nuclear and other force use in disputes, criticizing Eisenhower’s aerial inspection plan and signaling little prospect for movement.
An 18 year old California girl Jean Margetts was rescued after nine days in a wreck beside her fiancé James B. Hixon Jr. near Parley’s Summit along Highway 40. In Kirkland Washington three teenagers deflated tires on more than 20 cars Saturday night. Police Captain Wallace J. Greetan said the boys must report at the station for 30 days Sundays excluded and each will pump up a heavy duty tire from zero to 45 pounds. He noted the hand pump “doesn't work too good.”
A bakery worker in Busto Arsizio Italy fired a machinegun killing four and wounding nine before killing himself. Police officer Manetti died at the scene after Molinari opened fire while pursuing revenge for being fired from a bakery job.

Butte Montana hosts a large Independence Day parade as part of Fiesta Days ending the June 28 to July 4 celebration. The event features a 10 am parade with formation at 9 15 am, with dignitaries including Gov. J Hugo Aronson and mayors from Butte and Philipsburg. Eight F 84F jets from Malmstrom AFB and a T 33 trainer will fly overhead weather permitting.

A former Red Lodge resident Miss Dee Kovach aged 37 died in the Grand Canyon air disaster.
