Morrison Juror Charged After Failing to Agree
After 73 hours of deliberation a jury in the Walter Morrison murder case was discharged by Judge J J Lynch when the panel could not reach a verdict. Morrison, a 54 year old Butte police detective, was accused of fatally shooting William Douglass, a 23 year old salesman, in a soft drink parlor on June 5 1929.

Helena July 3 Special Montana will have no ballot initiatives this fall after the secretary of state reported the radical workmen compensation proposals failed for lack of signatures. Five more counties qualified but the two bills failed to meet the required 15 585 signatures. only 9 209 were gathered for a new compensation law and 9 002 filed with the secretary.

Campers Urged to Guard Fires as Deer Lodge Forest Burns
John B. Taylor, supervisor, warned campers and picnickers in the Deer Lodge national forest to take extreme care with fires after eight fires this season, a 100 percent rise from last year. Senate approves 250000 for Hoover crime study
The Senate voted 37 to 22 to fund the Hoover commission’s general crime study with 250000, rejecting a smaller 50000 limit for probation only.
