A hijacker attempting to fly to Hanoi was subdued by the pilot Capt. Gene Vaughn and two passengers in Saigon after the jet landed for refueling. The assailant fired five shots before being killed. 136 passengers and 17 crew escaped via emergency slides with minor injuries and one broken leg.
