Montana infrastructure line items die after veto overrides fail

Nearly a dozen infrastructure spending proposals passed by the Montana Legislature were officially dead after veto override attempts failed. Gov. Greg Gianforte kept 11 line-item vetoes on the main capital development budget, House Bill 5, saving taxpayers more than 23 million dollars. The cuts included a sixth residential cottage for the Southwestern Montana Veterans Home in Butte and 2 million for the Chippewa Cree cultural ceremony building and language immersion school on the Rocky Boy Reservation, which faced bipartisan support earlier but were blocked by the governor’s vetoes.
