In New York 650000 basic steel workers across 27 states began a strike at midnight after failed contract talks. The United Steelworkers AFL CIO insists the no contract no work policy will stand, with a six week minimum outlook and no further negotiations planned.
Kenwood Realty Co announced construction of three apartment buildings in the Northwest section south of the reservoir. The project costs over $500,000 and will house 60 families with eight three bedroom and twelve two bedroom units per building, located on Lexington street, above Prospect street, and west of North Henry Street.
Charles E Woolfolk retired Butte businessman dies suddenly about 1 30 pm Saturday after admission to a local hospital. Residence 1037 W Mercury. Born in Summerville Ohio he taught there before moving to Butte 55 years ago. He worked at Bell and Diamond then Hansen Packing rising to general manager then superintendent until 1950. Berlin dispatch says Polish troops fired at Poznan center to break a three day uprising by workers demanding bread and freedom. A French businessman reported the scene. Two businessmen from Portugal are mentioned in the stream of reporting.
Acting Secretary of State Herbert Hoover Jr. offered free U S food to Poland for Bread and Freedom workers after reports of violent protests in Poznan. Harold Starr of the American Red Cross, arriving in Frankfurt, heard claims of 400 to 600 deaths as Westerners fled Poznan during the industrial fair. Continued Page 16, Col. 4.
Governor J Hugo Arons to sever a silver ribbon Sunday at 1 30 pm across the Excelsior Street overpass for the 2 000 000 four lane highway west of Butte. The project known as Main Street of Montana's Magicland is Montana's No 1 highway build and the Fiesta Days feature runs through July 4 with state and local officials attending.

Montana Republicans pledged all 14 national convention votes to Richard Nixon for renomination. Secretary of State S. C. Arnold ran as favorite son with Eisenhower ties after June 5 primary. Delegates named include Arnold, Mackay, Spear, Haag, Bridenstine, Sullivan, and others from districts one and two with alternates listed.
Gov J Hugo Aronson told Montana Republican delegates his administration has laid a solid foundation and urged reelecting him to a second term. He contrasted his record with his Democratic opponent Arnold Olsen and said his aim is to be a good business administrator, not a Washington politician. Senator Barry Goldwater also spoke, calling the GOP a rallying point for individual freedom.
