6000 Automobile Tax Stamps Sold in Mining City
About 6000 automobile tax stamps were sold to Butte motorists by Tuesday evening. Frank Monaghan, postmaster, announced the $5 use stamps take effect today as a required war tax for vehicles in use between July 1, 1942 and June 30, 1943. Penwell, Montana internal revenue chief, advised deputies to enforce compliance and collect for cars without the stamp. Earlier $2.09 stamps covered only a partial year ending July 1.
