George W. Reif 72 Veteran of Wars Dies in Butte
George William Reif born February 27 1867 in Philadelphia died yesterday in a Butte hospital after a two week illness. A colonel in the Second Montana Infantry he led the unit before it joined the 163rd U S infantry for France. He came to Montana 52 years ago and to Butte in 1913 later serving as a Columbia Gardens watchman. He fought in the Indian campaigns and served in the Spanish American war and the Philippine insurrection.
