Verne D. Caldwell 47 of Billings, longtime Yellowstone county representative and insurance man, died in a Billings hospital from septic anemia triggered by a mastoid infection after influenza. Four men perished when an International Airways plane struck a cliff near White Pass summit in a snow storm.
