The Interstate Commerce Commission scheduled six public hearings on Union Pacific Railroad proposals to discontinue two passenger trains between Salt Lake City and Butte Montana. Hearings before examiner Robert H Murphey occur March 4 in Salt Lake City March 6 in Ogden Utah March 7 in Pocatello Idaho March 8 in Idaho Falls Idaho March 11 in Dillon Montana and March 12 in Butte.

School District appoints new athletic director

The new School District No. 1 physical education and athletic director will be announced Thursday night after nine applicants were interviewed. Chair Lester Zeihen said no more interviews will be held. earlier reports listed 13 applicants. The position was vacant since Jan. 9 when Sam Jankovich resigned to join Washington State University coaching staff.

Connection approved for Dillon near Interstate 15

Helena AP reports the Montana Highway Commission approved a seven tenths mile extension linking State Highway 41 and Interstate 15 just north of Dillon. Engineer says grading planned for July 1969 with paving set for July 1970 on the Dillon Twin Bridges road.

Four hostages rescued after botched supermarket holdup

A gunman was arrested in Aurora after a day long chase across Colorado. Four hostages were freed unharmed. two suspects Wilson Williams 26 and Louis Maple 23 were held for armed robbery kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. The chase spanned 250 miles ending near Denver.
