Joint System for Drafting Men Announced
A new joint system for drafting men into the Army Navy Marine Corps and Coast Guard will start next Monday. Drafted men may not know their ultimate branch. officials say individual preference will be given full consideration. Manpower chief Paul V. McNutt told a Senate sub committee that two of every three Americans 15 and older are needed for work or armed service this year, with about 100 million in that age group and a 65 million overall need. The War department said Air corps reservists qualified for aviation cadet training will be called before April 1 but college students may finish the semester enrolled through December 31. Reservists will be assigned to Army Air forces stations initially.
