Helena AP report says Jack Holmes a member of Montana's Railroad and Public Service Commission was hospitalized after a disturbance with fellow commissioner Louis Boedecker at the Capitol reception room door. Holmes said Boedecker became noisy and a struggle caused injuries. Boedecker, 44, was under a doctor's care. no statements were issued by him or the commission.
President Johnson outlines a federal aid program for progressive development of new subdivisions and complete communities in fast growing areas around big cities. The plan emphasizes urban renewal, public housing, and a Cabinet department for housing and community development, with federal grants and loans to fund future growth and essential facilities.
Auto license tabs are due with 12 000 to 18 000 tabs remaining to be purchased locally amid 5 000 already issued this year. State may grant another 15 days for tab purchase while Montana law extensions keep Feb 1 date from shifting. The 44th annual Montana Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages convention opens at the Finlen Hotel in Butte Wednesday and runs through Friday noon. Officers are Bill Happ, president. Bob Jorgensen, vice president. Dick Hughes, treasurer. Don Harrington, secretary. Over 100 industry reps from across the state and national speakers including Earl Steimer and William Mankin will attend.
Kenneth Johnson, 56, of Laurel died Monday in a two-vehicle crash at a Billings intersection. Johnson, a masseur at the Billings YMCA, was thrown about 20 feet. his car skidded over 120 feet. Tyron Fenton, 23, of Billings, who drove the other car, had facial injuries. Johnson's death marked Montana’s 13th traffic fatality this year, up from five at this point last year.
