Third Army advances reach German border after pushes
From Paris dated January 27 the U. S. Third Army swept to the German frontier at five points, overrunning 11 Belgian and Luxembourg towns in nearly four miles of gains as German forces withdrew behind natural barriers. They routed German troops from Clervaux in northern Luxembourg and pushed back along the skyline highway toward St Vith to within a mile.

Five Superfortresses Are Missing in Tokyo Raid
Washington reports the January Tokyo raid by 20th Air Force B-29s destroyed or damaged enemy planes while five American bombers were missing. The operation involved about 60 Superfortresses from Saipan and a second group from India covering Saigon.
