Father Batens 67 Dies in Belgium Former Butte Priest
Father Francis Batens, 67, first pastor of St. Lawrence parish in Butte, died Tuesday in his native Belgium. He left Butte in 1924 after 29 years of service, organized St. Lawrence in 1897, and retired in 1924 due to ill health. Ordained 1891 in Belgium, he came to Montana in 1895 as missionary under Bishop Brondel.
