The seven month stalemate between Butte city and its police union moves to mediation after pickets at City Hall the corral and the landfill. Mayor Micone agreed to invite a federal mediator while warning he may not be bound by the findings.
The FTC accuses Kellogg, General Mills, General Foods, and Quaker Oats of monopolizing the breakfast cereal market through anticompetitive practices and false advertising. It seeks divestitures to foster new competition, noting no conspiracy charged and highlighting potential broader antitrust use.
Montana delegates worry about whether the so called courthouse gang of elected county officials will be included in the revised constitution. Analysts say their clout could derail reforms if left out. The current charter lists many positions from county commissioners to clerks and prosecutors, complicating reform efforts.
