School trustees urged increased PWA funding during a state meeting. Ships Mohawk and Taliza collided off Seagirt New Jersey in zero weather with 160 on board. Mohawk sank while coast guard and radio reports saved crew and passengers.
Reports from Peiping and Tokyo claim 162 Japanese killed and about 200 wounded in three days of Jehol Chahar border fighting, while Chinese and Japanese sources dispute losses and warn of possible further action near Manchoukuo. Conflicting accounts from Peiping, Nanking, and Tokyo reflect tense, unsettled border conditions.
House Democrats rallied behind the $4.88 billion work and relief bill, pushing it to the Senate doorstep with a 329 to 78 vote.
