Montana Attorney General Woodahl suspends Chief Special Prosecutor Dick Ozivi and two aides James Smith and Lawrence Taylor at their request. The trio, cited as witnesses in a Lewis and Clark County gambling case, stepped back to avoid embarrassment as Woodahl campaigns for governor.

The FCC approved AT&T to raise interstate rates by about 225 million dollars annually as the company extended rate increases to out of state calls. Local charges are rising in many states, with 38 states already approving higher local rates in 1975 and 25 more states plus DC pending.
Butte residents gathered Friday afternoon in front of Montana Power at 40 E. Broadway to protest planned rate increases affecting local customers.
At a Helena Public Service Commission hearing on Montana Power Co rate increases, Anaconda Montana Mining Division energy manager Gordon P. Hercod warned gas prices to the company will rise sharply. He cited a forecast of 3.60 per mcf in 1980, about 169 percent above current prices, and noted a $20 million plan to replace furnaces that could reduce dependence on Montana gas. Protesters from AWARE collected signatures against rate hikes, while noting complaints from customers about rising bills.
CIA chief William Colby urged creating a single Senate committee to oversee covert operations and to impose criminal penalties on staffers who leak secrets. He criticized eight existing committees and noted public domain projects to news reports on CIA actions in Angola and Italy.
