The tally pushed total introductions to 500, far exceeding 1936 and nearing records, as bills moved rapidly from clerk to committees while lawmakers processed early measures on education, retirement participation, and state bonding reforms.
France aligns with the Soviet Union in opposing Thant's Jan 18 designation of certain U N member states as delinquent. Paris rejects Article 19 interpretation that debt for U N payments over two years strips voting rights and argues Congo peacekeeping costs are not obligatory expenses.
Stanley M. Gronfein was reelected Saturday night as president of the Butte Country Club at the annual meeting. William M. Frender was reelected vice president Loren Findly elected secretary. Findly and Mark Sullivan won three year terms on the board, with Gronfein W E Murray A H Wilkenson Peterson and William Frener as holdover directors.
Montana 56 senators set a record with 229 bills introduced on deadline day despite urged restraint. They approved a seat belt bill tentatively and saved a Sunday closing law from death in committee as the record beat 1957 and 1963 figures.
London AP reports Sir Winston Churchill's condition worsened Saturday night. A medical spokesman said he "must be moving towards the end" as the 90 year old statesman remains near death at his Hyde Park Gate home, in a weeklong decline following his stroke.
A mob of about 3000 Buddhists attacked the U S Information Services library in Hue burning thousands of books and injuring the vice consul as police stood by. The violence followed anti American protests across Saigon and Nha Trang with tear gas and clubs used to quell mobs.
London AP reports Conservatives emboldened by the ousting of Foreign Secretary Patrick Gordon Walker plan aggressive moves against the Labour government. The party aims to exploit Labour's razor-thin Commons margin amid Walker's Leyton by election defeat and Cabinet resignations, signaling a broader parliamentary struggle.
More than 100 cadets may be implicated in a classroom cheating probe at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, including about 30 football players. Secretary Zuckert said an investigation found a group of cadets stealing and selling exam papers. The academy has announced 29 resignations with more to come, while stressing the vast majority are not involved.
A campaign begins Tuesday night at the Finlen Hotel to collect signatures to place a 425000 dollar indoor outdoor swimming pool on the April 5 city election ballot. The L shaped pool would be 82 by 36 feet with diving boards and a children’s pool, sharing recreation plans with Stodden Park and the Municipal Golf Course. Walter Hinick is hired for engineering work and the city projects a 1.75 dollar annual tax per lot for two years to finance construction.
Tom Wigal announces Mrs. Robert A. Schatz of 3015 St. Ann as chairman of the 1965 Heart Fund Drive for Silver Bow County. The campaign runs February plus Heart Sunday on February 28 to combat heart and circulatory diseases, with volunteers delivering materials and a February 1 kickoff. A Monday kickoff telephone group under Mrs. K D Crowley will recruit volunteers to cover all community areas.
