Youth Hero Perches From Plane To Fix Landing Gear
In Pensacola on January 23 a 22 year old bakery worker James Diamond dangled from a disabled plane to repair a damaged landing gear during a 16 minute scenic flight. The pilot Walter M Blake could not land or abandon controls. Diamond attached a rope improvised from safety belts and secured the wheel. A woman passenger fainted as the craft landed safely. Diamond recalled fearing the many fire trucks and ambulances at the field.
