Montana lawmakers consider two tax classification bills
HELENA Montana January 23 AP A second measure to change the state property classification law for tax ation was noticed in the house. The bill would create five classifications instead of seven with autos in the 40 percent class, bank stock and moneyed capital in the 25 percent class, and farm lands in the 25 percent class. Also proposed is a bill to tax state property at 100 percent after 1931 and 50 percent in the meantime. The house committee also urged adequate funds to renovate and expand the Billings Normal School to accommodate 251 students amid unsanitary classrooms and other deficiencies.

A Heroic Rescue At Sea By Captain Fried
Captain George Fried of the liner America rescued the 32 crew of the disabled Italian freighter Florida in a 75 mile per hour westerly gale seven hundred miles off the Virginia capes. Two nearby ships abandoned the search as Fried held course with a radio direction finder and lifeboat lowered to reach the crew. The Florida’s officers reported a full crew and a dire situation as the America remained in the gale until the rescue was completed.

Identity of Man Found Dying on Street in Butte
Coroner Mike Salot and assistant Al Rondono identified Albert Kapanowski of 435 South Ohio Street as the man found dying on Utah avenue Friday. Investigators linked the street car removal to the victim, concluding only a local resident would have had access to it.

Wife Goes to Jail to Allow Husband to Care for Children
Bay City Michigan January 23 Mrs Theresa Efu will serve 191 days in Saginaw county jail while her husband Leslie Efu cares for their three children. Both pleaded guilty in federal court to violation of the prohibition law. Judge Arthur J Tuttle fined one cent and sentenced the other to 191 days in jail, allowing them to decide who pays. The husband was chosen to pay the fine so he could better care for the children.
