In Shanghai on January 22 193? Rear Admiral Koichi Shiosawa demanded suppression of anti Japanese groups in the foreign settlement and native areas. Japanese officers demanded an apology from the Republican Daily News editor or they would take suitable measures. British officials pressed Shiosawa for a statement and he said he acted under direct orders to end anti Japanese activity. He said if force was needed he would first consult settlement authorities.

Baggage agent Arthur Anderson describes opening a trunk revealing a body and another trunk containing body parts. The state links the larger trunk to Agnes Anne Leroi and the smaller to Hedvig Samuelson.
Butte yesterday again took honors as the coldest spot in the United States with a minimum of two degrees below zero and a maximum of 19 degrees above. Jim Webster arrested July 6 on running a twenty one game at Rocky Mountain cafe in Meaderville night club pleaded guilty to gambling. He was fined $150 by Judge Jeremiah J. Lynch and paid the amount. Webster was to stand trial next month and had been free on bail since arrest.

Robert C. Daniels a 28 year old soda dispenser staged a party for friends at Terminal Drug Co. and confessed taking 97.20 from the till. He pleaded guilty to grand larceny and was sentenced to one year in the state prison by Judge Jeremiah J. Lynch. He will be sent to Deer Lodge to begin serving today.
The street and alley committee of the city council discussed a new contract for garbage hauling. City attorney Judge EF Lamb said advertising for bids is not always required for general contracts, though lowest bid must be let in some cases. The meeting noted no mandatory advertising for this contract.
