Ten survivors found from Cavalier crash off New Jersey

The tanker Esso Baytown reported 10 survivors from 13 aboard the British flying boat Cavalier, forced down by icing 322 miles southeast of Cape May. Three crewmen are missing, feared drowned, as searchers with Champlain and other vessels scour the sea for the missing.

Senate backs WPA relief at 725 million in setback for Roosevelt

Washington reports that the Senate appropriations committee voted 17 to 7 to keep relief at 725 million dollars, denying a 150 million expansion. Butte Enjoys Mild Weather After Blizzard Slips By

Butte basked in comfortable winter weather yesterday after escaping a mid winter blizzard that blanketed Great Falls and Helena with snow. The Banana Belt area saw only a light fall while temperatures ranged around the 20s with a high of 26 degrees and a low of seven above zero. The western region recorded below freezing while gales and heavy snow affected other parts of the state.

WPA completes 231 conservation projects in Montana

Montana Works Progress Administration reports 231 water conservation projects finished under a $4,000,000 program initiated over two years ago. By Dec 31, 1938, storage for stock and irrigation reached 106,748 acre feet, with $3,275,856.19 spent by WPA and $695,350.96 by state and county sponsors. The effort includes 71 stock water reservoirs, 84 storage reservoirs for irrigation, and 45 flood diversions.
