Arson mobs in Bombay attacked cotton warehouses in Cotton Green as violence surged for six straight days over the Nehru plan. Five thousand rioters surrounded Mazagaon tram terminus while Nasik and Kalachowski saw police shootings, looting, and deaths during widespread unrest.
The Sagitta, a Military Sea Transport ship, struck the Texas Tower radar outpost 100 miles off Cape Cod causing a hole in the starboard side and a list to starboard. The crew stabilized the vessel and continued toward Boston at reduced speed with no injuries. The tower, built at a ten million dollar cost on Georges Banks, serves as an early warning site for enemy air or surface craft.

Sheriff D J Leeper on Friday voiced strong confidence the Lloyd Bogle and Patricia Kalitzke killings will be solved, citing specific information and a hot lead he would not detail. He expects valuable information from Mrs. Albuquerque Bogle in Texas as leads increase daily. The Kalitzke Bogle reward fund nears $4,500 after a Mine Mill Union donation, with plans to halt the drive this week to avoid tipping off informants.
A Royal Air Force jet ripped the village of Wadhurst in half injuring several and killing a 60 year old woman. One crew member was found dead and the other presumed dead. Four others were hospitalized including two firemen after their vehicle hit a telegraph pole. Fire destroyed a hotel, a grocery, shops, cottages and two bungalows as villagers fled. Sixty firemen battled the blaze for hours.
A Coast Guard Board of Inquiry heard that a gasoline leak was found in the starboard tank shortly before the Salem Maritime tanker exploded. Nineteen people were reported dead or missing.

Five men feared trapped beneath wreckage in 15 feet of water after a 180-foot center section of a bridge under construction collapsed in the Brazos River seven miles south of Hempstead. Four were injured, three escaped. missing are Hoff of Bellville Duncan of Ennis Lethman of Texarkana Boyd of Buffalo and Bethea of Dallas. Hospitalized were Chalkey Evans and Susan. Connell was treated and released.
