A crippled Air Force B25 crash landed on a guard house at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento and exploded turning the one room building into a flame. Five men were killed and about 50 injured with several in serious condition. The guards were returning from lunch when the bomber struck and then blew up.

Frank M. Carr, 77, longtime Beaverhead County resident and former rancher and businessman, died at Barrett hospital in Dillon after a long illness. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1951. Born in the Helena valley to Montana pioneers, Carr worked in Butte mines earlier in life and held management roles at Manhattan ranches and the Davidson Davenport Livestock company before buying a ranch at the mouth of the valley. Twenty Young Women to Enter Service January Twenty-Eight

Don ald G Murtha a 23 year old Butte veteran survived a brutal North Korean attack on a hill near Unchon between the 38th parallel and Manchuria in late 1950. He recalls praying and credits God with sparing him though he bears wounds including loss of sight in one eye a limp from a shorter left leg and frostbite. He carries a rifle bullet in his hip shrapnel in his skull and scars from the firefight.

Robert Henry Harris 32 native of Butte died in St. James hospital from burns and injuries after a garage explosion at 2617 Silver Bow street. The blast occurred at 5 07 PM and Harris died at 6 25 PM.
