If passed, the bills would offer inmate volunteers a chance at a University of Montana Missoula research center cost. The immediate aim of the legislation is to permit the University of Montana at Missoula to operate the program.

State Senator George Schotte says Rep Arnold Olsen told him the federal Bureau of Public Roads approved an interchange for south Butte. It would connect Interstate 90 and Continental Drive with Interstate funds for construction.
Mrs. Mary Grey Trahan 29 of Opportunity died when her car rear ended a Jeep east of Anaconda on Highway 10 around 9 25 am. Coroner says broken neck. Trahan's daughter Crystal Ann six was injured and the family survives by father Fred Grey and several siblings and a late mother Elizabeth Ann Grey.
John McCutcheon aged 35 died Wednesday around noon at the 3900 foot level in the Kelly mine. Ronald Waisanen was with him when a rock run buried McCutcheon in a settling tank. Coroner Leo Jacobsen noted no known local relatives and asked for addresses to be reported. body is at Richards Funeral Home.
Helena AP report states a bill by Senator Herbert Klindt would protect insured motorists from uninsured drivers. The proposal sets penalties and financial responsibility levels, with details on supervisor qualifications and salary for the public instruction post, but no current appointee has been named.
City-Countying Board received word from state highway engineer Paul M. Johnson that traffic control system work for the proposed Butte Interstate business loop will be accelerated. Johnson said a favorable decision from the Bureau of Public Roads could allow project advancement once engineering is completed and approved. He noted Urban Renewal funds are sufficient to cover Butte’s share, matched by state and federal funds, though a December notice said the traffic control installation would be postponed until 1970. A 21 member federal grand jury including eight women was impaneled by U S Judge W D Murray to consider about 20 cases. John P Regan was named foreman and Bessie E Lockey assistant foreman. Other members listed with addresses.
The East Helena Church burned out of control Wednesday night around 9 30 to 10 p m. No injuries were reported. A civic group had been using the church for a meeting.
The 1967 Western Governors Conference will be held in Montana at a converted West Yellow Union Pacific depot serving as a dining hall for 700 attendees at the state dinner. Babcock inspected the site last Saturday and met with community officials. the event will cost 35 000 to 40 000 dollars funded by private contributions.
Montana House considers HB201 to force married couples to file joint income tax returns for incomes above 1200 dollars. Rep. William E. Spahr says the measure closes a loophole and would raise at least one million dollars in a biennium. The proposal follows a Taxation Task Force recommendation to end separate returns for married couples.
