John Dale 35 of Buxton attempted to shoot a dog but the rifle exploded while he cleaned it. He suffered massive shoulder bone loss and was treated at St James hospital after being rushed from the Buxton home of Art Goodman. He survived the to be shot today remark.
Bill Maher pleaded guilty to a disturbance charge after resisting three officers during arrest. He said he feared another robbery and claimed policemen were his friends. Judge L A Buckley fined him $25 and remanded him to jail for nonpayment.

Police seek burglar who pried open a side office window at the Merrill mortuary on North Montana Street and took 327 from the safe. The cash box held 500, with 173 remaining. incident occurred Wednesday or Thursday and was discovered by mortuary manager Pat Gagner yesterday.
The Montana weather forecast indicates generally fair conditions in the eastern portion with a chance of rain or snow in the western section on Friday and Saturday, and only slight temperature changes expected.
In Helena on January 18 the Montana House rejected a proposal to create a board of managers to file articles of impeachment against Gov. Frank H. Cooney over acts as a state board member and chief executive. The motion failed 41 to 50 after hours of debate. a similar impeachment filing against Secretary of State Sam W. Mitchell was later withdrawn. The 53 day special relief session recessed to resume at 10 o clock tomorrow with plans to adjourn soon.
Butte voters face a Feb 3 special school district election registration closes at noon. Any taxpayer over 21 may register, including those not listed on last rolls, with about 15 000 expected to qualify.
