Navy launch capsizes in Barcelona harbor collision
A U S Navy launch carrying over 100 sailors and Marines collided with the Spanish freighter Urela and capsized in Barcelona harbor at about 2 20 a m. At least 24 service members died and 30 were injured. Twenty six remained unaccounted for with 14 seen aboard the launch. Spanish tugboats righted the overturned craft and found divers clinging to the hull. Navy officials said the launch normally carries 110 to 120 persons and was not overloaded. The battle group ships Guam and Trenton were nearby on a goodwill visit.
