A Butte man dragged his unconscious brother from a burning cabin in a dramatic rescue. The event underscores quick action amid fire, with neighbors aiding as flames were fought and the casualty evacuated to safety.
Gov Frank H Cooney and Secretary of State Samuel W Mitchell face a motion to file articles of impeachment after legislative probes criticized contracts and bids involving foodstuffs capitol repairs and fire insurance. The House deferred action to tomorrow as Haight led the impeachment bid amid a tense special session.
An aerial survey after Monday's Bihar disaster reports 8000 to 10000 dead with Muzafarpore utterly ruined. Water from ground fissures flooded 100 miles around, submerging towns and destroying railways, bridges, and communications.

William Reynolds 46 died in a local hospital two days after his wife Margaret Reynolds 38 was laid to rest. Reynolds had lived in Butte 20 years and fell ill at his wife's funeral. He is survived by brother Harry Reynolds of Butte and sister Mrs Rathjohn of Rochester NY. Richards mortuary holds the body. funeral plans to be announced.
In New York on January 16 the fusion group allied with La Guardia backers and independent Democrats carried the aldermanic vote, electing John J. McGinley over Tammany candidate Gus Pierce who died of heart disease as the result was announced.
Brother rushes into a smoke filled cabin on Adams Street to rescue 27 year old Thomas Strike a CWA worker after a smoldering cigarette stub started a fire. Thomas was pulled outside and taken to Murray hospital where he remained conscious after initial revival efforts.
In Chicago Jan 16 a grim display of evidence including a blood stained shirt and undergarments shocked Dr Alice L Wynnekoop during her murder trial as her daughter Dr Catherine Wynekoop offered medicine while the elderly defendant nearly fainted. The confrontation arose when a silk shirt was shown for identification as taken from Rheta's body and the state won access to the items after a lengthy dispute over admissibility.
Thirty seven Butte physicians and surgeons attended the St James hospital medical staff dinner hosted by the Sisters. Dr E C Emery served as toastmaster and the evening featured brief speeches medical jokes and singing by the doctors during the informal three hour event. Mae West described in court how a man resembling the assailant brandished a pistol and took her rocks and poke during a 1932 night robbery. She said the thief conversations and her fear centered on possible facial injuries as she feared losing more than money or gems.
In Butte the CWA improvement program has sewer diggers tunneling under busy streets. A Grand avenue and Florence avenue tunnel carries a 10 inch pipe, three feet wide and seven feet high, timbered like a mine. Foremen Ingals Gay and William Gendle directed the Grand Florence tunnel.
Helena Montana January 16 Governor Frank H Cooney signed H B 1 ending a 51 day special session deadlock on relief bills The new law sets auto registration at five dollars for cars 2850 pounds or lighter and ten dollars for heavier vehicles The bill sponsored by Representative Albert Besancon aimed to fix enrollment errors from the regular session The measure stalled before reaching the governor but a late compromise approved the change
City Hall drivers permit bureau set a new record with 719 permits issued yesterday, doubling Monday’s high and near the highest on record. Two deputies of City Treasurer Bernard E. Holland sped through the queue as Officers Nixon and Finnived led the rush. No arrests. drivers’ numbers were recorded and permit notices sent for follow up.
Montana expected unsettled Wednesday and Thursday with possible rain or snow in the west portion. Temperature is expected to show little change across the period.
The senate banking committee requested an Attorney General opinion on the constitutionality of commandeering the gold stocks of the Federal Reserve system as part of Roosevelt’s monetary program. Secretary Morgenthau outlined the broad moves, and hearings with Federal Reserve officials were scheduled for the next day.
Washington reports the Hawes-Cutting independence law for the Philippines becomes inoperative tomorrow as the islands remain under U S sovereignty. Last minute efforts to extend the acceptance date failed. Advocates consider a retroactive extension and a direct vote on the law in June elections.
Joseph Henry Jennings, 33, a negro, was granted a new trial for murder by the state supreme court. The case, involving the Fatally wounded Eugene Robinson, 54, at the Silver City club, will be retried in Judge T. E. Downey's department. Jennings claimed self defense and that he acted after Robinson attacked him.
