Montana watchdog urges closing the maximum security and Musigbrod structures at Warm Springs State Hospital. Report cites 27 legal violations and rights abuses, including patient privacy violations and jail cell like conditions. It also recommends faster court-ordered evaluations and expanded local control to shift toward intensive treatment.
In Helena a pair of measures led the Montana Legislature's week two agenda. A Senate bill would bar summer unemployment benefits for teachers without a September contract, while a House joint resolution asks Congress to raise highway speeds to 65 mph in sparse, low-traffic areas.
Two more suspects in the murder of Don Bolles were arrested in Phoenix. John Harvey Adamson pleaded guilty to second degree murder under a plea deal and could be freed after about 20 years. An affidavit links Dunlap and Robison to the plot and mentions Kemper Marley as allegedly ordering the hit.
Retired trucker Jerry Huggins in Racine Wisconsin revives a cheap blend he calls hard times coffee mixing barley grains with regular coffee. He roasts malting barley to about six cents a pound and brews a dark drink that tastes like coffee but costs about half as much. He notes a pleasant non bitter finish and uses barley to ease caffein and save money.
Greyhound Lines and Continental Trailways roll out new low price tickets offering 50 dollar one-way, 33 dollar round trips within three days, and 99 dollar nine-day passes. Interconnections allow cross-ticket use, with Canada excluded on Trailways routes.
