Explosion and Fire Kill 25 Aboard Carrier Enterprise
The nuclear powered USS Enterprise suffered 11 to 12 blasts on the flight deck after a bomb from a landing plane caused explosions and a fire. 25 sailors died and 85 were injured as crews attempted rescue and medical treatment for burn injuries. The ship limped into Pearl Harbor with extensive damage to the after section while a search for survivors continued.

Safe containing drugs stolen in pharmacy burglary
A break in At Central Pharmacy 12 S Idaho left a safe containing narcotics stimulant drugs cash and checks missing. Owner John Starcar could not estimate quantities as police found a rear door to the Silver Bow Clinic open and a steel door between the clinic and pharmacy cut with a torch. Tools and a torch remained at the scene.

Snow Drifts Close Butte Streets After Thaw
Wet snow slickened Butte streets and highways with three inches of accumulation after a day long thaw. Highway crews plowed mountain passes and dangerous curves with chains required for Homestake Pass and Boulder Hill. No serious crashes reported. A snowplow mounted on a truck was stolen at the Butte Airport.
