State Grazing Land Rentals Hike Proposed by Council Subcommittee
Helena AP A Montana Legislative Council subcommittee proposed a major rise in state grazing land rentals. The plan would lift last year’s 99 cents per animal unit month to about 28 cents, nearly doubling the 1960 rate of 54 cents, with income mainly funding education. The rates, set on a per animal unit per month basis, aim to reflect higher government costs and support schools and livestock interests. The council endorsed the report and will vote on it at the March meeting after hearings and fieldwork.

The Deer Lodge prison factory produced light aluminum plates intended to last three to four years, but real traffic wear proves harsh. Plates dent, bend and tear easily, especially where the state map embossing is deepest. Many 1959 plates already fail to survive until 1962 or 1963 tabs, with many stored in sheriff’s offices after losses or detachment on the move.

Anaconda Zinc Shipments Rise at Anaconda Plant
Anaconda crews at the Anaconda smelter work three shifts to melt and cast slab zinc for toll customers. Last week two shipments were made totaling 100000 pounds, with 1822 slabs destined for Chicago. Four zinc units operate. copper refining and other furnaces run, while nine cars of anodes head to Perth Amboy for refining. The plant resumed after a strike settlement on Dec 22, with about 1225 Mine-Mill and 436 crafts workers.

Hansen Contract Talks Continue Negotiations step toward local pact

A dissident spokesman said talks centered on a referendum on an Ana conda Co. settlement proposal with no names named. Seven Persons Die In Highway Crash At Oil City Louisiana
A head on collision near Oil City Louisiana killed seven people and injured four. In the station wagon were Mack W. Taylor 42 Jessie M. Thompson 50 Gussie F. Lee 70 Cassell L. O'Donnell 28 and Mrs Louis Milam 62 all from Vivian. In the car were Mr and Mrs Sam Evans 56 of Jefferson Texas. O'Donnell's station wagon crossed the center line. Three Negroes were listed as critically injured Edna Jones 23 Robert Jones 2 Curtis Evans 25 all of Jefferson. The white injured person remained unnamed.

Anaconda Reaches Yerington Accord With Union
Anaconda Co officials in Butte said a settlement with the Nevada Trades Council negotiating committee over the Yerington mine and precipitating plant has been agreed. Snow forecast clash: thief steals snow scraper at service station
Monday night forecast for Butte warned occasional snow with about an inch of accumulation. A suspected thief, described oddly as a storm-forecasting intruder, did not wait to gauge snowfall.
