Chicago January 12 UP Eastman urged labor leaders to halt agitation for a six hour workday until it is industry wide. He warned the proposal would add at least 400 million dollars to railroad costs and harm railroads unless competitors share the burden.
Amelia Earhart completes the first solo flight across the Pacific. Crowds cheer as police hold back fans while her monoplane rests in the hangar. Weather warnings and previous fatal attempts shade the historic journey of the 36 year old aviatrix.
In five years from 1929 to 1934 St Patrick's parish of Butte reduced its debt by 34000 dollars to 24000 dollars. J J Harrington, president of Patrick's corporation, cites an annual average near 7000 dollars. A free parochial school and free textbooks are planned as debt is liquidated.
State officials vow to disprove any link between Bruno Hauptmann and Bruno Fisch claiming Fisch did not supply ransom funds. Handwriting experts, including Osborn, argue ransom notes were written by Hauptmann, with the Stockholm device linking all notes. Requiem high mass for World War II veteran Michael Powers was held at St. John the Evangelist. Burial followed in Mountain View cemetery American Legion plot with military rites by Legion members and color guards. Powers died Thursday at Sheridan Wyoming veterans hospital. native of Butte.
John W. Konen of Butte aged 45 was buried today at Holy Cross cemetery after funeral services at St. Ann's church. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. M. M. English. White's chapel handled arrangements. Pallbearers included Eddie Sullivan Frank Sullivan Frank Morrissey James Rolando Charles Gray and John Griffith.
Rev C C Wilcox officiated the funeral for Mrs. Ethel Maude Montgomery of Reynolds and McDowell olock, who died Thursday after residing in Butte for years. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery. Mrs. James Thompson and Mrs. Margaret Thompson sang Abide With Me and No Night There. Pallbearers were O Barnicoat, James Kaliso, James Thomson, Oliver Nystrom, Charles Hoskins and Jack Andrews.
The funeral of Carlo Consoni of Butte held at St Helena's church followed a cortege from 2010 Leatherwood Street. Interment occurred at Holy Cross cemetery with Rev. E C Hanna conducting mass and the church choir singing responses.

Delia Fleming of 1004 Chicago Street died Thursday after long residence in Butte. Funeral Mass was at Sacred Heart Church with Requiem High Mass. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. Clergy included Rev R W O Day, Rev Peter Brett, and Rev William Joyce. Pallbearers listed as Adrian Brown J Sullivan P Dougherty Hugh Ferry D M Hand James Dwyer.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah G. Powell were held this afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs Wade Plummer 1215 West Gold Street Montanan native. Rev Thomas Ashworth officiated and burial followed at Mount Moriah cemetery Richards mortuary had charge of arrangements Pallbearers named O Anderson J Armstrong Dr A R Collins R C Murphy E L Snoddy and F B Taylor.
Margaret I Kelleher 30 of 743 North Main Street died early today at a local hospital after a short illness. She was born in Butte and lived here all her life. Surviving are husband Daniel a sister Mrs Fred Morgenstern a brother William Sheehan all of Butte plus aunts uncles and cousins in Butte and Ireland. Funeral mass Monday at 9:30 at St Marys church with burial in St Patrick Cemetery. Body at Duggan’s Merrill mortuary.
John F. McCarty 52 of 409 Kemper Avenue died early today at a local hospital after a long illness. He was a surface man at the Girl mine and had lived in Butte 42 years, coming from Denver. Surviving are son James of Missoula daughter Loretta of Spokane and several relatives. The body is at Duggan's Merrill mortuary and will be taken to the family home Sunday afternoon pending funeral arrangements.
County Treasurer Mervin J. Dempsey reports to County Superintendent Maybelle Hogan a drop in apportionments for the first half of the current school year. Butte Public High School receives 99 612.86 while general school funds total 72 779.53, with fines at 169.30. Eight mill levy totals for districts show District 1 receiving 69 625.60 and others receiving smaller amounts, with additional county-wide distributions listed by district.
