Former GI Paul Meadle described firing rounds from automatic weapons beside Lt. Calley during the 1968 My Lai massacre in Lai. He testified with no visible emotion about killing villagers including women and children, confirming details aired earlier in television coverage.
Witness Meadle recalls instructions from Lt. Calley to kill villagers during the My Lai incident. He describes helping shoot villagers and follows Calley to a drainage ditch where the killings occurred. Ronald Grzesik testifies he did not see Calley fire a weapon.
GOP leaders weigh a two percent sales tax as an alternative to Governor Anderson's plan to raise state revenues. Democrats oppose a general tax, while Republicans seek bipartisan support by targeting a broad tax with exemptions, inching toward a one half of three percent framework previously discussed.

Butte voters face a head to head Democratic nomination race as Alderman J. D. Flynn files for mayor. Flynn, 53 and a 24 year city council veteran, hopes to unseat incumbent Mario Micone who seeks another term after a disruptive independent bid. Flynn paid a filing fee of 105.40.
