Identification of seven charred bodies from the Northwest transport crash near Bozeman remains incomplete. Officials cite violent weather and a terrific downdraft as the cause, with pilots Nick Mamer and F W West among those identified.
The 21 ton Pan American Samoan Clipper crash landed in the harbor at Apia Samoa during a South Pacific flight. Seven crew members are missing with conflicting reports of sighting the aircraft afloat and searchers failing to locate it despite a five hour Navy hunt.
United States and Britain were said to pressure Japan toward a face saving peace in China. An imperial conference around Emperor Hirohito with cabinet and defense leaders reportedly rejected military factions' push for immediate war against China.
The House voted to give the President blanket power to reduce or remove any item in appropriation bills except veterans’ allotments. If the Senate agrees, Roosevelt can veto individual items within bills, reshaping fiscal procedure.

He explained the route used, noted a new Belgrade radio range, and said Mamer lay in the beam center as the wreckage suggests, having passed the Bridger mountains near a Bozeman meadow store road to Wilsall.
