Washington January 8. Representative Samuel A Kendall Republican from Pennsylvania 24th district aged 73 killed himself in his office after writing a note grieving his wife’s death. A note to his children cited August 22 bereavement as the severest shock of his life. Kendall served 14 years in Congress and was defeated for reelection in November.
Everett A. Smith, 39, a railroad express messenger, and his 6-year-old daughter Lois died in Missoula from poison likely in home canned beet greens eaten Friday night. Mrs. Smith left to help a neighbor before the meal, while Everett finished the cooking for the family.

Fred Readell, master of the 18 foot Elaine, sailed from Australia in a record small vessel. The one man crew endured four months at sea with storms and calms, stopping at Fiji and Samoa before Honolulu, arriving in Los Angeles harbor in SAN PEDRO California on January 1931. readell used a pocket compass to navigate and held on as storms tossed the craft.
Lee Cruce 69 former Oklahoma governor from 1912 to 1916 remained without much hope of recovery today. He was stricken with partial paralysis at the Los Angeles home of his daughter Mrs Lorena Cruce Norris.
