A winter storm dumped knee deep snows from the Pacific Northwest to Colorado. Idaho Falls logged 15 inches, Wyoming’s Teton Pass saw heavy drifts, and several Idaho districts closed schools. Strong winds and ground blizzards hindered travel across Montana Utah and Wyoming with one death reported.
In Nicosia Greek and Turkish Cypriots agreed to dismantle barbed wire barricades and withdraw guard bands. Sir Arthur Clarke said removal would start soon and progress would allow freer movement and intermingling, though officials warned against expecting instant reconciliation.
The Montana Liquor Control Board's refusal to license Skaggs Drug Center of Butte for off premises beer sales is set for district court review. Judge Lester H. Loble heard a day of testimony and promised a ruling soon.
Congress launched its election year session pledging to push an $11 billion tax cut bill and deliver it to President Johnson by month’s end. Democratic leaders also promised prompt action on a civil rights bill to guarantee Negro rights in voting, schools, jobs and public accommodations.

In Butte the City Council plans a second session on the mayoral deadlock with 16 aldermen split eight to eight. On Monday the ballots favored Leonard Vainio six votes and Tom Powers six, with Bert Mehrens four. If attendance and votes mirror the second ballot, a swing to Mehrens as a compromise outsider is possible.

Helena contractor Joe Reber challenged State Sen. Frank Reardon over a poll taken at the Saturday Democratic Congressional Report dinner in Butte. The poll named Dr. R. R. Renne as governor nominee. Reardon blamed a Farmers Union minority and said few candidates had a chance. Reber asserted the Farmers Union and poll sponsors were Silver Bow County Young Democrats, with ballots counted publicly by local officials including John Newland and Bill Horn. Reardon said his issue was with the poll's conduct, not Renne.

Gov. Nelson Rockefeller won nearly all of New York 92 National Convention votes by securing Republican State Committee backing. The move blocks Barry Goldwater backers from raiding the delegation as two counties were absent. Rockefeller attended the meeting but left before the resolution was proposed.
