Snow flurries fell as residents, including School of Mines students, built snow figures around town. A Marcus Daly statue area attracted a unique snow sculpture with a humorous comment about the subject’s measurements 108 89 155.
Nairobi reports Indian settlers are fleeing Portuguese East Africa due to reprisals for the Goa seizure. They move toward Tanganyika and other destinations as tensions rise in the region.
Clayton W. Maxwell 59 a veteran Montana editor died en route to Butte from Chicago where he suffered a heart attack while preparing to return home with his wife Gladys and daughters. Born near Helena he joined the Butte Miner in 1928 later serving at the Montana Standard and Butte Daily Post and retiring in the merged papers. He was a St John Episcopal member and longtime Butte resident since 1903.
Cloudy with snow and a sharp cold spell moving into northern Montana. Temperatures fall to near zero to 10 below in the north and 5 to 15 below in the south with heavy mountain snow and strong northeast winds. Outlook shows lingering snow and clearing by Monday night, then partly cloudy and very cold Tuesday.
United States military police delayed a Soviet bus with 18 officers for over an hour to check if Colonel Alekseev or other Russian commanders were aboard. The bus proceeded after an interpreter confirmed Alekseev was not on board. Solovyev remained barred from entering West Berlin.

President Sukarno addressed a cheering crowd in Celebes promising to send thousands of boats to seize West Irian unless the Dutch yield on his terms. He claimed broad support from 2 million Indonesians and the Communist bloc, and said world reaction would not deter Indonesia’s liberation campaign.
A 40 year old Conrad man Myron Sessions died when his milk tanker overturned on a county road five miles north of Vaughn Montana. The crash occurred Sunday and involved no other vehicles. Sheriff A C Peterson said investigation would continue Monday.
Ray Boksich age 14 of 2200 Willow admitted to St James Hospital with a leg wound from a .22 rifle bullet. Deputies say the accident happened at 3:15 p.m. near the old Main Range Mine, two miles east of Butte. Harry Shaffer 16 of 2201 Hazel was handing the rifle to Boksich when it discharged.
