Avalanche claims John Norby near Livingston

In Livingston on January 1 the body of John Norby a 32 year old resident of Contact was found after a deadly avalanche. Rescue crews of 55 men in extreme snow three feet deep and trapped terrain searched through the day seeking Norby and fellow rodeo performer Jack Tracy who was later found safe. Weather and rugged conditions forced searches to pause and resume tomorrow with crews camping three miles from the scene.

Montana road work hits December peak with 11,703 on projects

In the latter half of December Montana highway contractors reported 11,703 workers on road projects. Chief Engineer D A McKinnon noted 96.93 percent were Montana men, with 4.07 percent from out of state. One hundred fifty nine employees are veterans with dependents, all registered with the national re employment service.
