Elk Plant Near Walkerville Moves North for New Range
A group of 33 elk planted Saturday three miles north of Walkerville aims to thin the northern Yellowstone herd. Trapped in Yellowstone National Park, the elk release is part of a program by Skyline Sportsmen and the Montana Fish and Game Dept to reduce the Park herd from about 10,000 to 5,000. Since 1959, Walkerville area has received 127 elk, with Saturday’s release consisting of 14 cows, 14 calves, and two bulls.

Car Hits Pole on Anaconda Road Injures Three

New Disease From Tangier Islands Baffles Heart Experts
Washington United Press International reports two Public Health Service doctors Donald S. Fredrickson and Paul H. Altrocchi of the National Institutes of Health have identified a rare new condition dubbed Tangier Disease. It presents with swollen orange tonsils and an almost absent high-density lipoproteins in the blood, a factor not well understood in heart disease. The doctors treated two children on Tangier Island in Chesapeake Bay, the only known patients.

Cuban gunboat lands at Key West as 14 Cubans seek asylum
A 110-foot Cuban gunboat named Las Villas sailed into Key West harbor with its captain and two crew aboard and 14 crewmen locked in a cabin. Coast Guard and Immigration officials said there was no struggle and the 14 did not protest their arrival in the United States. The vessel, built as a World War II patrol craft, is held pending a decision on possible return to Cuba.
