Eugene H. Mahoney a 41 year old mason and lawyer from Sanders County has been chosen as speaker of the Montana House. Democrats hold 59 seats to 35 for Republicans as the 35th Legislature convenes Monday noon. Mahoney previously chaired the House Committee and served as Sanders County attorney.

Six year old Sammy Lee Anderson asked his brother what he would do if a giant appeared at the door. Robert Lee Anderson, age 1, grabbed his father's .22 caliber rifle and pulled the trigger, fatally wounding Sammy Lee who died at a hospital in Pierce Florida.
