Tax bill would keep slice of rich firms profits

Washington reports the House tax subcommittee fixed to keep a large portion of wealth in the hands of a few. The plan would tax undistributed profits at 16 to 20 percent with a further 20 percent on the balance after exemptions, easing some pressures for many corporations but sparing closely held firms.

John C Kelley Dies in Honolulu At 51

Public Prosecutor John C Kelley aged 51 died in Honolulu of heart disease after a December 26 hospitalization. A Montana native and graduate of the University of Michigan, he built a Hawaii career as a famed prosecutor in the Massie case and later law practice. He was brother of C F Kelley president of Anaconda Copper. Funeral plans not announced.

Shanley Named Toastmaster for Jackson Day Dinner

Dr. T. J. B. Shanley will serve as toastmaster at the Jackson day dinner Saturday night at the Finlen hotel. The event, a major Democratic affair, drew reservations from five counties and about 50 long distance calls for tickets. Arthur F. Lamey will be the guest speaker. Starvation Victims Buried After Teruel Siege

In Teruel Spain bodies of 20 civilians and prisoners, including women and children, were recovered from Santa Clara convent after rebel and government forces bombarded the city. A medical officer cited starvation as the cause of death amid the siege. Rebels retreated underground as government forces prepared to storm.

American flyer Harold E. Dahl faces life in prison

In Salamanca Spain insurgent headquarters announced Harold E. Dahl an American aviator saved from a firing squad by a plea from his bride is a prisoner for life of Generalissimo Francisco Franco. Dahl will serve the rest of his days in a nationalist prison unless mercy extends or civil war ends differently.

Promoters Plan Reports For Butte Retail Division

Forty one members of the retail merchants division of the committee of 100 appointed by the Butte Chamber of Commerce to craft a bigger and better Butte will meet monthly to discuss practices and events and to recommend actions to the Chamber. Robideau Faces Execution After Confession

Billings reports Frank Robideau, jailed for a double murder, will be hanged at Columbus a week from Saturday. Guards placed on duty as Robideau showed nervous tension in a communal cell and was moved to a murder cell in Yellowstone county jail.

Couple Married in Bozeman as Detroit Jail Looms

Jack Sambore and Mildred Benyon Sambore wed at the Bozeman Justice of the Peace office with two deputies as witnesses. Sambore is held for larceny in Detroit after allegedly leaving a Three Forks gas station without paying, in a car rented there December eighth. Extradition to Detroit is being sought by Detroit detectives. The couple may honeymoon to Detroit with a Detroit officer.

Barber Dies in Sing Sing for Childs Murder

Ossining New York January 6 Salvatore Ossoid a 27 year old Brooklyn barber was executed in the electric chair at Sing Sing prison tonight for the murder of nine year old Einer Sporrer The case drew wide attention as the death penalty was carried out following his conviction.

Grainger Plays Turkey in Straw at White House Dinner

At the President's annual vice presidential dinner in Washington the program included Turkey in the Straw performed by Percy Grainger to please Vice President Garner. About 70 guests attended the 8 pm dinner and 250 more heard Grainger and soprano Madame Elizabeth Schumann after the meal.

Seniors Chosen To Guide Open House At New Butte High

Butte high school seniors will serve as guides during the public open house for the new high school building. Principal Scott Fries met with seniors to finalize plans for three guide crews covering 1 to 4, 4 to 7, and 7 to 9 o'clock visiting periods. Teachers and janitors volunteered, and Washington Junior High students moving in January 31 will tour at 2 o'clock with their teachers.
