Judge rules open vetting meetings must stay public
A district court judge ruled Gov Gianforte’s judicial advisory council cannot close public interviews of two attorney candidates without a specific privacy-related reason. Judge Mike Menahan said closing meetings anytime an individual privacy interest might arise would erode open meeting laws. The governor’s office plans to appeal the decision.

Great gray owl rescued from Georgetown Lake toilet
A female great gray owl nesting in a tree cavity reportedly entered a vault toilet vent pipe at Georgetown Lake near the Forest Service latrine. Alaska? No, Montana wardens and wildlife biologist Lara Chodelski responded after anglers reported the entrapment on December 9.
