More than 2,000 families become homeless as Clyde and Cart rivers rise in Glasgow and environs. Four inches of rain fall since Friday. low streets flood six feet. buses stranded. rail bridges closed. Rescue crews use rowboats in Carthcart to save residents.
Springfield detective Frank Pike survived a prolonged farmhouse gunfight as gunmen killed six officers. The scene left blood spatters on the detective’s arm and two officers beside him dead. Senator Wheeler of Montana will introduce a bill to restore free coinage of silver at 16 to 1, arguing it would expand money supply, revive business, reduce unemployment, and lift agricultural prices within a year. He says it would boost world purchasing power and debtor capacity while benefiting farmers and labor.

A contract was let in Washington for an addition to the Butte post office. A. N. Lundberg of St. Louis bid 241000 and work to begin immediately. The expansion will span the full width of the current building and extend back 70 feet, adding space for new offices including the U S Forestry Service.
All Butte schools reopen this morning after a 10 day holiday. More than 10 000 students return, including 262 at the Montana School. Continued on page 2 column 1.

Two dynamite devices were thrown at Emmett M. Barnes home in Coeur d Alene Idaho tonight. The first failed to explode while the second destroyed the ground near illuminated windows. Police found bomber and dog tracks in snow. Barnes oversees unemployment relief crews for Kootenai county.
Fire of undetermined origin swept a building at Trinity College in Shanghai today, amid ongoing anti college agitation. The American Methodist institution previously lost a similar structure in 1928 with no determined cause.
Springfield Missouri January report describes a large manhunt for suspects in the farmyard massacre of six peace officers. Harry Young and Jennings Young fled near the Page residence as Oscar Young and others were detained. Crowds and posses swarmed the area with patrols and searches extending into adjacent properties.
