Duncan Adams reports a diverse, well organized 2024 Montana Folk Festival in Butte July 12 to 14. The Jerry Douglas Band wowed Uptown crowds while the 79rs Gang energized the Dance Pavilion. Reverie Road touched Irish roots and Indigenous designers staged a fashion show on the main headframe stage. The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research surveyed 567 attendees praising sound, variety, and free admission.

Belgrade man sold bighorn ram testicles to breeder
John Edward Lewton of Belgrade was charged with one count of violating the Lacey Act for selling the testicles of a trophy bighorn ram to Arthur Schubarth for 400 dollars. Prosecutors say the sale violated Montana law which limits the sale of game parts to hides heads or mounts.

First responders public health officials and harm reduction workers in Missoula are finalizing an overdose spike alert and response plan within the public health emergency operations framework. The 14 page plan outlines steps for agencies and groups involved, defines a spike as three or more overdoses in 24 hours, and leverages OD Map to alert communities along routes from Spokane to Salt Lake City. Butte-Silver Bow firefighters battled multiple structure fires over New Year including a travel trailer residence near Casey Street and Missouri Avenue that was a total loss with no injuries. At 6 p.m. New Year’s Day crews fought a garage fire at 2400 South Main Street, with Boulevard Volunteer Fire Department assisting. No injuries reported. cause under investigation.
