Russians Lunge Toward Poland William Kendall Dies in Butte Auto
A Butte shaftman, William Kendall about 55, was killed in a head on crash with Ivan Stratton of 1301 Casey street on Harrison avenue four miles south of the city. Kendall’s death was Montana’s first highway fatality of 1944. Stratton and Ada Stratton were taken to St James hospital with serious injuries. Ada was unconscious with a deep scalp wound and head injury, while Stratton had a broken kneecap, lacerations, and possible internal injuries. A second holiday accident near Basin left four residents with minor injuries as their car flipped north of Basin. Names given: Ronald Koehler, Lewis Ballew, June Rogers, and Lyle Agnest.
