Military appeals court clears plea deals in 9/11 case
The military appeals court ruled against Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and allowed the plea agreements for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two co defendants to proceed. The deals would see the three plead guilty to a charge tied to the Sept. 11 attacks in exchange for sparing the death penalty. Mohammed and the others faced pretrial hearings at Guantánamo Bay. Ridah bin Saleh al Yazidi was repatriated to Tunisia, reducing Guantánamo detainees to 26.
