Atty. Gen. William P. Rogers said rigged TV shows fooled the nation and federal power is enough to curb corruption. He urged payola underwriters be a federal crime and expanded sanctions on broadcasters, while hinting at possible later regulation of networks. The report was given to President Eisenhower after quiz show rigging surfaced.

The first general snowstorm of the winter blankets Montana with heavy falls along the eastern slopes of the Continental Divide. Great Falls reports four inches, Helena three. more displaced towns report an inch or two, with traffic slowed and roads snowpacked in western and central areas as temperatures plunge to near or below zero at night and rise only to the teens.
MISSOULA AP Frank J Sullivan a 63 year old Butte typesetter was fined 2000 in federal court after pleading guilty on four counts of income tax evasion. Judge James noted Sullivan age good reputation and considered jail time but imposed a fine. Sullivan reportedly underreported dividend income of 520,698 while actually receiving 581,379 according to investigators.
Gen. Randolph McC. Pate Marine Corps commandant retires after 38 years of service. He leaves office and will begin retirement concluding a long career with the Marines.
Sen. James E. Murray of Montana announced on Thursday he will seek reelection in 1960 for a fifth consecutive term. A liberal Democrat first elected in 1934, Murray is 83 and Montana's senior senator since 1946, surpassing Burton Wheeler’s record last month.
The Steelworkers Union announces contempt of court filings in Pittsburgh over failure to provide financial reports under the Taft Hartley injunction. Arthur Goldberg also accuses industry ads of misleading claims as talks with Nixon and Mitchell continue. Nixon confirms direct intervention in the steel dispute.
Silas C. Dishno, longtime Beaverhead County resident, will celebrate his 102nd birthday on January 6 at the home of his daughter-in-law in Missoula. Born January 6, 1858, in Whallensburg New York, he moved west in 1879, ranching in Idaho, then in the Big Hole valley before settling in Dillon in 1911. After his wife Melinda Rhino Dishno died in 1944 he moved to Missoula, where he has resided since.
President David O. McKay will deliver a keynote address to inaugurate a 13 fireside program for LDS youth. The event begins at 7 PM in the Butte church with a 8 PM address broadcast via closed circuit to multiple Western cities and parts of Canada.
