In year end figures the NRA says its codes cover 18 to 20 million workers across major industries six months after Roosevelt signed the act. About 182 codes have been issued with hundreds more expected, while 4 to 6 million workers remain within scope. The re employment pledge ends with the Blue Eagle emblem rights still in effect.
Former congressman Fiorello H La Guardia, an independent Republican and foe of Tammany Hall, takes the oath as mayor of New York City after midnight following a decisive November victory over the Tigers.
Six people are feared dead after a bridge on the Los Angeles Glendale highway collapsed and hurled two cars into the swollen Los Angeles river. The vehicles were found about a half mile downstream, and searchers combed the floodwaters for additional victims.
President Roosevelt will meet tomorrow night with congressional leaders to discuss last minute taxation and appropriations proposals. Eight or more Democratic chiefs in the Senate and House are to attend along with Vice President Garner and Speaker Rainey to shape the president's message for the coming session. Mrs. Rose Anna Foy 80 Montana pioneer died yesterday at her daughter’s home 2042 Harrison avenue Butte. Survived by three daughters two sons seventeen grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren along with a daughter in law. Born in Canada she came west as a teen and spent decades in Butte and Virginia City. Funeral arrangements follow at Merrill mortuary and are to be held at St John the Evangelist church with services pending as the obituary notes.
Helena dispatch notes the Montana legislature on the thirty sixth day of its special relief session aims to adjourn within a week or 10 days, contingent on Senate action on about 20 House bills including 13 revenue measures that may not be reported promptly.

Whitey Lewis, famed escape artist and sought criminal, was arrested in Corpus Christi Texas by Department of Justice officials and local police while allegedly staging another crime. Investigators tied him to the Harrison bank robbery in Montana as an accomplice, with Montana authorities noting his long history of eluding officers.
James H. Baldwin Montana's new federal district attorney expects to assume duties within a week and would prefer Butte as his headquarters. He plans to retain current assistants for two weeks or more while he surveys candidates and forms a staff. Baldwin, a longtime Butte resident, aims to keep Butte as home during his term, noting no reason to move headquarters to Helena.
