Japan rejects the League of Nations committee report condemning its Manchuria actions. It accuses the League of acting with haste and trying to rally Western opinion against Japan. The 1,600 word document was read to the assembly for approval.
Tokyo reports dispatches say Peiping and Tientsin could fall to Japanese forces after Peipiao, Jehol province, was seized at 2 p m Tuesday. The news emphasizes the strategic railroad towns and the momentum of the Japanese advance in Manchuria and northern China.
Mukden reports heavy troop movements and artillery as Japan presses toward Jehol with aim to crush Chang Hsiao Liangs army and threaten Peiping and Tientsin. Along the Chinchow Peipiao line clashes continue. casualties unreported. Washington notes Carter Glass denies rift with Roosevelt on inflation.

A squad of federal prohibition agents waded through three feet of snow for two miles to find a hidden distillery in Brown's Gulch. The plant produced liquor and was fueled by escaping fumes before three men were captured with liquor. The still and equipment, plus over 100 gallons of whiskey, were destroyed as the case moves toward arraignment in Butte.
Nashville reports Cordell Hull a key finance and tax expert and longtime Democratic chair from 1921 to 1924. Hull authored the 1913 federal income tax plan and 1916 estate tax, led party unity, and served as U S senator from Tennessee after a long House tenure. Born October 2, 1871, in Pickett County, Tennessee.
The Bowery once a lively East Side resort for drinkers and dancers is being torn down on East Granite Street after a previous interior fire. Wreckers started work as youths remove timbers for firewood, leaving a bare lot where revelry once rang through the night.
In Helena Montana the senate joked through debates on cosmetologist licensing and barber bills. A measure would require licenses for all cosmetologists. critics argued girls may curl each other’s hair without licenses. Washington reports that Senator Claude A. Swanson of Virginia has been offered and has accepted the post of secretary of the navy in the Roosevelt administration. Swanson, a leading Democrat on foreign relations and naval committees, conveyed his acceptance to President-elect Roosevelt amid cabinet selections.
New York reports William H. Woodin an industrialist and banker with long ties to the American Car and Foundry company and several boards is chosen for secretary of the treasury. The announcement pairs him with Senator Cordell Hull to form part of President Roosevelt's initial cabinet amid war debts and world economic concerns.
Charles Stevens a 40 year old former Illinois convict and reputed gambling resort operator near Colorado Springs was held for questioning in the Denver Boettcher II kidnapping case. Known as Ova Stevens in St. Louis he used the alias Charles Belmont and has a long police record. Detectives will probe ties to Denver and Colorado gamblers and gangsters from St. Louis.
