Six or more men were killed when a fire and explosion tore through the Salvation Army's transient men's home in Dallas on Friday night. At least 17 men were hospitalized as firefighters pulled bodies from the second floor where residents slept after an unexplained blast.
Sofia reports a new restriction on train service after rumors spread that the German army planned to enter Bulgaria. Foreign Minister Ivan Popoff declined to forecast the future while a traveler from the Romanian frontier noted German troop activity suggesting a possible move within 48 hours.
In Love lock Nevada the Navy or Army fortress aircraft struck a foothill peak shortly before it exploded killing all eight aboard. Lieut Col B J Tooker and Constable Wallace Reed reported the crash site and ruled out sabotage as a cause.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill will broadcast on February 9 at 9 p m British time over the BBC home and overseas services. The address will be carried in the United States by NBC and Columbia networks.
Admiral Baron Mineo Osumi, a top Japanese war official and former navy minister, reportedly died in a plane crash in south China on Wednesday during an inspection tour, according to naval reports released Saturday.
A multi agency posse searched forested Judith mountains for an armed man after he eluded Deputy C V Nielson at the Lewistown courthouse. Kenneth Lacey 22 and Fred Kingsland 25 were questioned about thefts in Toole county when Lacey escaped through a side door after slamming the door into Nielson. In Helena the Montana Senate confirmed five appointments to the state grass conservation board by former Gov Ayers by a 49 to 5 vote.
British high command announced a major setback for Italy after Bengasi fell, with 60 Italian tanks destroyed and heavy losses, including the capture of senior officers. Italian troops fled west into central Libya as Graziani’s forces grappled with encirclement and retreat.
The Roosevelt administration backed a sharp limit on transferring U S military gear under the lease lend bill. The House approved a cap of one-tenth of defense appropriations for 1941, roughly 1.2 to 1.3 billion dollars, pending exact valuation. Representative Taber proposed a stricter ceiling, but the measure passed with broad support as leaders pledged to defend U S military capacity.
Butte Scouts will celebrate their thirty first birthday with a court of honor at the Elks Hall on Montana and Galena streets. Montana will not repeal the direct primary law this session as H R 52 failed after a long floor debate. Rep Toomey argued for voter referendum while opponents cited primaries as costly and undemocratic. The bill was killed 61 to 34 with the House preserving the present primary system.

Miss Dorothy Edwards of Salt Lake City led the morning session on council professional relationships. Miss Hazel Adams of Billings spoke on major responsibilities of local councils. Officers will be elected and plans for the regional meeting were made.
